Marvel Studios & ILMxLAB Reveal Avengers: Damage Control Location-Based VR Experience

Suit up and battle evil-doers alongside Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Rudd, and Evangeline Lilly.

Marvel Studios and ILMxLAB today announced a new location-based VR experience set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe that will have users duking it out against a sinister force alongside a handful of legendary Avengers.

Set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, Avengers: Damage Control puts players in the shoes of an ordinary guest visiting a Wakandan Outreach Center when the facility is suddenly attacked by an unknown enemy. Serving as the perfect trial run for Shuri’s (Letitia Wright) new “Emergency Response Suit” — a prototype armor built using a combination of Wakandan and Stark Industries technology — players will travel throughout famous MCU locations as they team-up with heroes like Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), and Wasp (Evangeline Lilly), to save the planet.

“We’re always looking for new stories and corners of the universe for our characters to explore. Now, after more than a decade of amazing support, we are excited to give fans the same opportunity: to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” said Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, in an official release. “Expanding how people can experience the MCU is something we’re always trying to do, and in Avengers: Damage Control, we wanted to give fans the chance to suit up alongside some their favorite heroes for the first time ever.”

Like the other location-based experiences featured at The VOID locations, Avengers: Damage Control will feature a combination of VR and real-world sets to add a new level of immersion to the experience, allowing players to physically interact with real environments and objects.

“The opportunity to bring such a beloved universe alive through immersive storytelling has been a once in a lifetime opportunity,” added Shereif Fattouh, Senior Producer, ILMxLAB. “‘Avengers: Damage Control’ lets you feel what it’s like to shoot repulsor blasts with your own two hands, suited up in Shuri’s latest technology. This original adventure allows you to go beyond the screen, and become a character in the story itself.”

Avengers: Damage Control will be available beginning October 18th for a limited time at the following VOID locations:

  • Downtown Disney District in Anaheim, CA
  • Santa Monica, CA
  • Las Vegas, NV
  • Mall of America – Minneapolis, MN
  • Cinemark – Plano, TX
  • World Trade Center – New York, NY
  • The Battery – Atlanta, GA
  • Genting Highlands – Malaysia
  • The Rec Room at Round House Park – Toronto, Canada
  • The Rec Room at Square One Shopping Centre – Ontario, Canada
  • The Rec Room at the West Edmonton Mall – Edmonton, Canada

You can pick up tickets now through The VOID.

“We’re fans first, and we all have our favorite movie moment, and favorite character,” said Dave Bushore, Executive Producer, Marvel Studios. “But to be able to mark a moment in time where you got to step into the MCU and meet them, interact with them, and come together as a team…it’s extraordinarily powerful. We hope people have as much fun experiencing Avengers: Damage Control as we did making it.”

ILMxLAB teased a Marvel-related location-based VR experience just over a year ago after it was announced that The VOID would be expanding its VR offerings with five new immersive experiences.

The Lucasfilms-owned immersive entertainment company is also responsible for the location-based VR experience Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire, which tasks players with going undercover as Stormtroopers in order to steal a deadly weapon from a highly-guarded facility.
